On April 7, 2016, a luncheon was held to honor our dedicated volunteers. This event took place at The Chelsea in downtown New Bern. The volunteers were provided with 3
menu choices to select from-Shrimp & Grits, Chicken Bruschetta and Apollonian Chicken Salad. Among our attendees was Mr. Larry Weis, who is Vice President of Alphamedia USA and manager of the
facility where our reading service studio is located. We are truly indebted to him for his generosity in providing this nice studio space and making available to us, technical support provided by Al
Cannon, IT Chief Engineer.
We were also privileged to have Mrs. Bobbi Fisher, President of the New Bern Lions Club, as guest speaker for this event, and her husband, Mr. George Fisher, who serves as treasurer of the New Bern Lions Club. Information was shared concerning the history of Lionism and the many ways the New Bern Lions Club support the needs of visually impaired citizens in the community. The New Bern Lions Club has been a regular financial contributor to our local Radio Reading Service for many years. We truly appreciate their faithful support of our organization.
In light of “VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH”, we want to express our appreciation to all of the 53 individuals who volunteer to come to the New Bern broadcast studio each month, to read aloud the local newspapers so that individuals who are blind or have other print challenges can have the opportunity to know about local news and events. . “Volunteers, you have a vital role in making this service available to print challenged citizens in our community. Thank you for investing some of your valuable time and talents with us.”
